How many panels do I need?
To work out how many panels you need, simply divide your intended fence’s total length by the width of your chosen panel.
Most garden fence panels, including ours, are 1830mm (6 ft) wide as standard. If you factor in your fence posts, that's roughly one panel for every 2-meters of fencing. You can always cut panels as needed where shorter lengths are required.
How high can fence panels be?
If you don’t want to have to apply for planning permission, the maximum height of a new fence depends on where you want to place it:
New Fence Placement
Max. Height Without Planning Permission
Next to a public highway (or its footpath)
Up to 1 meter (approx. 3 ft 3”
Away from a public highway (or its footpath)
Up to 2 meters (approx. 6 ft 6”)
To build a higher fence you will first need to apply for planning permission. You must also apply for planning permission if the fence is for a listed property or is in the curtilage of a listed building.
Our fence panel sizes range up to 6x6 ft; perfect for use in most gardens or on private land where planning permission isn't required.
What are the best fence panel sizes?
The standard 6x6 ft garden fence panel is probably the most popular. It's high enough to provide sufficient privacy and security, but still well under the maximum height for use without planning permission.
All our fence panels are 1830mm (6 ft) wide as standard but are available in a range of heights to suit your project. Go to the top of the page to check them out.

Closeboard fence panels are constructed from partially overlapping vertical boards and secured by a sturdy frame. It's a robust design that's ideal for boundary screening, and because the individual boards are easy to replace, repairs are quick and cost-effective.
